WCCTV outlines what makes a CCTV system truly redeployable, as well as exploring some of the key benefits and applications for rapid deployment CCTV systems.

Redeployable CCTV cameras offer multiple unique benefits that allow them to seamlessly work alongside or completely replace traditional hardwired CCTV systems.

But what are the characteristics of a redeployable CCTV system? How do they differ from fixed CCTV cameras, and what are the pros and cons associated with utilising Redeployable CCTV Cameras rather than a fixed network?

WCCTV has led the redeployable CCTV industry for over 20 years, both in terms of technological capability, back-end support and the number of active systems deployed nationwide. Below, the Company defines exactly what makes a redeployable CCTV camera.

In addition, WCCTV also explores some of the key applications and surveillance scenarios where these cameras truly come into their own.

What is Redeployable CCTV and how does it work?

WCCTV defines a redeployable CCTV as follows:

“A mobile surveillance system that incorporates live and recorded video, via an integrated motherboard within one portable housing.”

To break that description down, a redeployable CCTV camera can be distinguished by:

  • Video transmission via mobile networks

  • Remote access to live and recorded video

  • An integrated hard drive

  • Quick and easy installation

  • Full portability

The portability and rapid deployment nature of these cameras make them “redeployable”, and this key element sets them apart from traditional CCTV cameras.

Portable CCTV allows a police force to dynamically respond to emerging surveillance requirements, a construction site to quickly install cameras and move them as their project develops, and temporary event organisers to get a short term security system in place with minimal fuss.

Typically, redeployable CCTV cameras are mounted to a lamppost, building or they can be supplied as a Rapid Deployment CCTV Tower to locations where power and mounting facilities are not readily available.

Key Features of Redeployable CCTV Cameras

Some of the key features associated with redeployable CCTV cameras have already been outlined by WCCTV when we listed the Essential Features of Redeployable CCTV Cameras.

That article provides an in-depth analysis of what potential buyers of redeployable CCTV should expect to receive as a minimum standard.

A summary of these features includes:

  • HD Video Quality: A WCCTV redeployable camera will deliver live and recorded video at resolutions up to 1080p and beyond. Securing high-quality video is essential for investigation and evidence gathering.

  • Remote Access: Harnessing the integrated 4G transmission, users of redeployable CCTV can access their cameras remotely using laptops, smartphones, or tablets.

  • Local Storage Capability: WCCTV's redeployable cameras utilise onboard storage, so the relationship between live video and remote access is managed directly between our software and the device itself. This 1-2-1 relationship results in zero latency, and a truly live video feed rather than delayed clips pulled from cloud storage.

  • Multiple Powering Options: WCCTV's redeployable cameras boast multiple powering options, including 110v mains power, solar power, or being deployed as part of a fully autonomous CCTV Tower.

  • Video Analytics: WCCTV's redeployable cameras feature built-in video analytics capability, which helps automate surveillance efforts. This increases the efficiency and reduces the workload of staff responsible for viewing and retrieving the footage from the cameras.

  • Remote Diagnostics: WCCTV's redeployable CCTV cameras feature a unique Heartbeat diagnostics tool that remotely detects any fault with the cameras as soon as they occur. This can be paired with the WCCTV Smart Switch, which allows the unit to be remotely power-cycled, correcting over 95% of errors.

  • Accessories: WCCTV's redeployable CCTV units feature three additional output channels allowing for the addition of ANPR cameras, voice address systems, sirens, blue light alarms and more. These allow us to build a bespoke surveillance system customised to fit the user's specific requirements.

Use Cases for Redeployable CCTV

WCCTV has been supplying redeployable CCTV systems around the globe since 2001. We have consistently led the market in terms of technology, customer support, and developing products that meet the exact requirements of several key sectors.

In our experience, the following applications are the most appropriate for redeployable CCTV:

Local Authority Monitoring Applications

The rapid deployment capability and portable nature of redeployable CCTV make them the ideal solution for preventing and recording crimes such as anti-social behaviour, vandalism or fly-tipping.

Councils can quickly install the cameras at target specific hot-spot areas and have the flexibility of moving them to new locations if requirements change.

WCCTV's redeployable cameras are currently utilised by over 450 local authority departments across the UK, delivering tangible results such as prosections, reduced crimes rates and improved neighbourhood safety.

Police Applications

WCCTV's redeployable CCTV systems are currently utilised by over 70% of the UK's police forces to tackle various crimes, including anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping and serious organised crime.

As with local authority applications, the police force can move the cameras from location to location to meet community requirements and tackle known crime hotspots responsively and dynamically.

The cameras can also be deployed to provide public safety at major events, demonstrations, rallies and in parks and open spaces.

Housing Association Applications

Redeployable CCTV systems are ideal for tackling antisocial behaviour, vandalism and fly-tipping within a social housing environment. They help to improve community safety, provide reassurance and reduce the fear of crime.

Several of the UK's leading housing associations use WCCTV's rapid deployment cameras to target specific hot-spot areas with the flexibility of being able to move them to new locations if requirements change.

WCCTV also provides a covert variant of its redeployable camera, allowing housing associations to deploy them for evidence gathering in instances of crimes such as drug dealing, gang activity and other serious crimes.

Why Use Redeployable CCTV Cameras?

Using redeployable CCTV cameras as an alternative or addition to fixed CCTV systems can deliver several key benefits.

These include significant cost reductions, quicker installation, and a more dynamic and responsive approach to your crime prevention and investigation efforts.

Redeployable CCTV may not suit every application, but in the scenarios listed above, they offer unparalleled advantages.
